Help ROOT QUESTION.

Hi, I'm new to this, but I have a theoretical question for one of you smart guys out there.

I' ve had an Xperia Z1 Compact which has been causing me a lot of issues (continually crashing and restarting)

In my dealings with Sony, I have had a complete software re flash, as well as a new motherboard put into the phone, yet the problem seems to persist. So while originally suspecting it was a hardware problem, that is starting to look less likely now that almost all of the hardware has been replaced. I am now starting to suspect that it was my rooting the phone that caused the problems.

I guess my question is, is there any way that a dodgy rooting operation could damage the firmware on a lower level than Sony's software fix, or could the software issue reside on any other piece of hardware that does not lie directly on the motherboard?

Does a complete reflashing of the ROM leave no traces of any tampering done beforehand?? If so I would be able to exclude the rooting from being the problem, right?

Would be super keen to know :)

Thanks.

Pat

I would assume that complete reflashing would mean just that. If only the ROM was replaced then problems could remain, but if they reflashed the whole phone then there would be no trace. In fact replacing the motherboard would completely replace the software, so if the problem persisted after a motherboard replacement then it's nothing you did (assuming you didn't immediately root again before finding out whether the problem was fixed).

Rooting by itself shouldn't cause problems, but of course if you make any other modifications, or used software intended for a different device, then that's another problem.

Normally I'd move the question over to the Z1 Compact Root forum for better support, but TBH there isn't a lot of activity there :(

I would say you may have a device issue, Is there a way to view system log or actions made just before the crash?
in a sense flashing is tampering done beforehand. Once your firmware completes and you reboot can you get a wired connection and connect to its ip address trough its firmware from a different pc and monitor system status?

Thanks Guys!
I don't know if I'm technically savvy enough to keep an eye on the phone's command line before the inevitable crashes.

Thanks Hadron for reassuring me that there couldn't be any possible reason a root problem could persist between motherboard switches (I was wondering if perhaps there would be some other piece of memory based hardware in the phone that would be separate from the motherboard, but these days the whole system is basically on one chip, right?)

This has given me the confidence to reroot my new device (which is working wonderfully!)

Perhaps the problem with the original phone would then be the interface between the hard shell and the SOC, god knows where.

Anyway Thanks!
