Root [ROOT][R915][GB] Insecure kernel + Root + BusyBox for EL06

Root for R915 EL06

I realize I'm extremely late, but don't complain. Your fellow user Crispies was generous with his time, and allowed me to test this. Source, while available, has not done me any good - source-built kernels don't seem to be mounting stl9 (/system), despite the stock initramfs being used, and working properly. The kernel here's a repack.

DO NOT RUN THE AIO. CWM IN ITS CURRENT FORM WILL BOOTLOOP YOUR PHONE. DO NOT INSTALL OR RUN ANYTHING BELOW ON R910.

If you ignore the above and post here or come to IRC for help, I will laugh at you.

Having said that, let's get to what you need.

How to Install

1. Boot into Download Mode. Use Odin or Heimdall to flash the TAR. DO NOT USE A PIT. DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION.
2. Unzip indulge915-el06-root.zip. Run run.bat (Windows) or run.sh (Mac/Linux - run from a terminal).
3. Install Superuser from the Play Store.
4. Test root with a root app like AdAway.

Thanks to DRockstar for BusyBox, adb for Linux/OS X, and some bash scripting. Thanks to Crispies for testing.

Im sure you're tired of this question but, Where can I get the Firmware for the R915 GB 2.3.6?
Ive looked everywhere...Kies mini wont upgrade it.
Thanks.

I found the file at sampro.pl (it's polish, but this is a direct download). I used Odin to flash it.

This worked after following this restock guide written by k0nane and ShabbyPenguin.

Initially after following the restock guide I couldn't get the phone to boot. The phone would appear to follow the normal boot process: the Cricket logo would appear and play its ******ed music, then the Samsung logo would blink at me for a bit as expected, then a backlit black screen would appear and the phone would vibrate intermittently. I solved this by entering recovery (holding "r" on the keypad and pressing the power button from a battery reseat) and selecting the "wipe data/factory reset" button.

Dunno if doing them in that order is necessary, but it worked for me. My next step is to try the kernel in this thread. We'll see what happens.

***UPDATE***

The kernel here flashed as advertised and the root script executed without issue. I installed SuperUser then removed most of the crapware installed on the device (including TwLauncher for which I substituted Zeam). One thing that confuses me is that I keep removing Twitter and it keeps returning at each reboot. But whatever.

It's a shame there isn't more available for the device - a custom ROM or OC'd kernel and maybe the V6 SuperCharger would be welcome additions. I understand the partition scheme is unusual on the R915, but it could be a pretty nice device with some effort, I think. Anybody have any insight on the reason development has been so limited?

-Mike
