Root Root, ROM, and hot spot questions

OK, I am not on the Razr HD phone, but I have someone that wants me to root theirs for them and install a ROM that offers the tethering. Is there any particular ROM you all would suggest? Again, I would just test all this out myself, but I have a Note 3 and do not have a Razr to work with right now.

Is Hotspot dead on 4.4.2 for the Razr?

You can patch the 4.4.2 RAZR HD to do tethering.

Or, since your friend is on 4.4.2, you could root, unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and then CM11 which has tethering built in.

You will have to root regardless of whether you decide to do the tether hack or CM11.

Go here to root first -> https://towelroot.com/. Download the towelroot APK to the phone, install it and run it. (Click on the lambda sign to download the APK).

Then, after rooting, use the native hack for tethering which is located here -> [MOD][4.4.2]Native Tether Hack for build 183… | Droid RAZR HD | XDA Forum

That would probably be the best way to do it.
