Root Root?

Tryin to root my buddies phone, cant find the tutorial... Its -a at&t galaxy S samsung-SGH-I897 has 2.1 on it. Want to root n flash a rom. Anyhelp? Thanks
 
The 2 most widespread roms for sgs are probably cyanogen and darkys rom. Both have excellent tutorials and lots of users on the forums willing to help. Have your buddy look at some screenshots and read through some experiences to choose which is best for him. I'm on darky and like it very much, my brother is on cyanogen after having been on darky for a year. He likes cyanogen best. Both of us have the international unlocked sgs but the roms will work on yours too. Google the names for more info. Sorry for spelling and grammar, not a native English speaker.
