Rooted-now what?

Ken Jones

Lurker
New (old) guy here. Might as well jump in with both feet!

Recently obtained this tablet to dedicate to an automotive purpose. It works very well for the intended purpose (monitoring engine sensors, adjusting engine settings, etc.)

In my infinite wisdom I had it rooted thinking that rooting might simplify saving/transffering files between the tablet and my laptop pc. My preference would be to map the hard drive, or folders therein to the pc.

Any chance of that ever occurring?

Any and all, advice, criticism, obscene remarks, vulgar language will be cheerfully accepted!

I root for several reasons and I'll list some here. Its getting less necessary to Root now days some say but it is important to me.

So I can run:
Titanium Backup (TBU).
Lets say you run an apk that you like and they update it,rather you have the Play Store settings option to auto update or you did it yourself the new version sucks. Now you cannot revert until they fox or change it and that doesn't usually happen. With TBU you can restore it. I have my TBU keep two copies of each in case I backup a copy I don't like.

Root Explorer
With RE I can manage my file folder structure. Sure apks make and use their own and I don't tamper with them but I I want to make my own folders and such its there.

Themes
I like dark screens. Hate the white night face of texting and such. Its getting tricky these days though. So I like to have a custom recovery so I can backup my device before doing themes for an easy reversal.

1st have you unlocked the bootloader? What kind of device are you running?

Hello and welcome Ken!
I'm with @gapi regarding Root Explorer. With it you can delve into any part of the device you wish as you stated about "mapping the hard drive". That will work very well. :D

Not sure if Windows can actually see all the partitions on the device though, but the app Root Explorer can.
