Root Rooted Sony Experia Z2 intermittently dropping data connection.

Hi guys I have a rooted Z2, recently I noticed that it's been dropping it's data connection. It completely cuts of with a red x, then after a while it goes back to Edge then it's back to H+. My friend says that because it was rooted some time ago it maybe time to get an update. Any ideas guys. Thanks.
