rooted wi-fi tethering on zte z992?

Hi guys, I'm trying to bypass at&t and use my ZTE z992 (avail 2)'s wifi tethering capability without upgrading my data plan. I've rooted my device with cydia impactor and i've got the Wi-fi Tethering for root users (TrevE mod) app, which is telling me that tethering is working successfully, however I am unable to see the SSID of my tether network on any of my wi-fi devices. I tried manually entering in the SSID and WPA key and connecting that way, to no avail (wow i just made a pun).

Can anyone help me out here? Has anyone successfully bypassed carrier restrictions for wifi tethering on this phone?

I tried messing with the settings on the wifi tether apk, i still can't get the network to show up anywhere.

DUDE, first the cwm recovery image, now this? I guess i was just trying the wrong apk versions. This totally worked. Thank you so much! i'm sure there are lurkers who are benefiting from your work as well. Keep doing what you're doing man.
 
Thanks. It took me a while to figure out which app and settings to use, I even included it in my Azazel ROM. There is no sense in keeping it to my self.
 
Tell me more about this azazel rom... I might want to give it a try. Although i'd like to know if there's a stock rom anywhere for the z992 just in case.
 
There is currently no stock rom. You could use CWM to make a backup in case shtf. Now if you make a separate backup right after you factory reset and upload it somewhere I can turn it into a flash-able zip stock rom.
As far as Azazel rom goes It is just a striped out stock rom with some light modding done then named after my pet corn snake.:D
 
i've already removed some bloatware using titanium backup, and the phone seems to be running ok, except for the occasional app crashes, and some apps seem to treat the sd card as read-only. Could a recovery bring it completely back to its storebought software state at this point? either way i'll make a backup of how it is now, then restore it and make a backup.

meanwhile, can you give me a link to the azazel rom zip? then once you've got all of those zips, we should see about getting them posted on the all things root thread for the z992, that thread is useless at the moment.

also, say hi to your snake for me xD
 
alright. would i need to do to anything to ensure that my calling/texting/data will still work with at&t? if so, what must i do and how do i do it?
 
edit AIO works on AT&T's network
calling and texting should just work. you will probably need to change the apns for data and mms though.
To do this go to settings > Mobile Networks > Access point Names and select your apn.
now wright down all settings then flash the ROM. After that go back to the apn screen create a new apn with the same settings and make it active.
 
don't attempt on the z992 already did and force closes on acore and system ui , pressed okay millions of times and it kept popping up window after window. btw does anyone know kaw do you know how to request/obtain cyanogenmod for these devices iv seen your post below your rom discussion and have no idea how itd be possible. thanks for the recovery btw!!!!!:D
