Rooting and changing carriers Galaxy S2

I was looking at getting a new phone(new to me) as my current one is takinga dump on me. I have a friend that has a Galaxy S2 used on US Cellular and I'm on Verizon. What besides Rooting the S2 will be need to be done, if it is even possible. Thanks!
