Rooting android 5.1 to make SDcard internal memory

Lhune

Lurker
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to transform my SD card into internal memory (since several apps do not want to be installed)
I've tried via Terminal Emulator but it doesn't seem to work unless rooted.
I hoped one of you could tell me how to root my phone
... or get the storage solved.

Thanks in advance,
Lhune

(Japanese phones are fun but it's hard to get by manuals ^^;)

What phone do you have?

A Japanese Freetel Musashi
  • CPU: ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit quad-core processor (1.3GHz)
  • GPU: ARM Mali-T720 GPU
  • Memory : 8 GB ROM / 1 GB RAM
  • 2G Network : GSM GPRS EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
  • 3G Network : UMTS HSDPA UMTS 800, 850, 900, 2100 MHz
  • 4G Network : FDD-LTE 800, 900, 1800, 2100 Mhz (Bands 1, 3, 8, 19)
  • Micro SD memory card supports up to 128 gigs
  • Battery Size : 2000 mAh
  • Display : 4.0 Inch qHD Display screen x 2
  • Bluetooth version 4.0
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • GPS / A-GPS
  • Micro-USB Interface / Port
  • Music Format : MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, QCELP, WAV
  • Size : 123.1 x 63.1 x 17.6mm
  • Simcard Size : Micro / Micro (Dual-Sim
It runs on Android 5.1 OS

It's a great clamshell but some app (google maps, bank app, whatsapp and such) only can be stored on the internal memory and as you can see, there's not that much place.

I see , but unfortunately even if you get your device rooted some apps will not work if it's moved from internal storage because that's how the developers written it as Internal Storage Only.

I'm not familiar with that device and I don't want to give you the wrong information and you use it and break your device. But I would try looking into some Japanese mobile sites where it may be some root applications for device.

Thank you for the quick reply and your advice.

I thought I had found a guide to make the SD-card internal memory but it turned out I needed a newer version of Android. I looks like I should've researched it better before buying.

Sadly I don't know enough Japanese to understand the understand the sites but I will contact someone in Japan who know the language much better.

Recommendation: I suggest using Microsoft translation that works way better than Google translation. All you need to do is copy and paste any text you see and pasted into Microsoft translation app and it will translate pretty much any language into English so you can understand it and this will help you better your search in your rooting Journey

The "format SD as internal" option was only introduced in Android 6. So unless you can find an update for that device (official or custom ROM) it's not possible.

There are older tricks with partitioning the card and using the second partition for app storage (using link2sd or one of a few scripts that were written for this). Those things date back to android 1.x, so should be possible if that's what you want (and if you can find a root method for this device).
