Rooting HTC Wildfire

Hi,

Since my Honor 7 display just gave up on me, I am wondering if I could get any advice in breathing new life into my old Wildfire by rooting it and installing a custom ROM.

After looking up some instructions it seems like the most common rooting tool Revolutionary's website has been taken down, so do you guys have any other working methods for me to try out?

My HBOOT version is 1.01.0001 and I am running Android 2.2 Froyo.

You could look at the older HTC rooting tool Unrevoked - that won't give you S-Off, but it should be able to root a Wildfire (and S-Off is not needed for installing a ROM). Of course a lot of resources for phones as old as this no longer exist, but that particular site still seems to be live.

It seems like the newest version of HTC Sync is not compatible with the HTC Wildfire. This makes it not possible to install the drivers for the phone

I read that you need Android 2.1 for it to work properly. :(

That's possible. Certainly for the Desire (a contemporary) it worked with 2.1, didn't work with 2.3, and I can't recall how 2.2 was.
