So here are the steps and required downloads for it to work. im on windows. seeing how this phone is obsolete not sure if anyone finds this useful, but it does work! Make sure your software version is LS840ZVK and android version 4.0.4. or else it might not work or fail!!

1. Download the required drivers for your pc to recognize your phone. heres the link - LG LS840 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA

2. Click on "Software Update & Drivers" than "usb drivers for windows"

download and install.

3. Download "kingo root"

heres the link - Kingo Android Root, the most reliable free Android rooting tool

4. Click on "download from FTP on kingo"

download and install

5. Put your phone in usb debugging mode. its located in "settings" than developer options.

make sure its checked.

6. Connect your phone via micro usb to your pc. Make sure your phone is in "MTP" mode for it to work.

Go to settings than "connectivity" choose usb connection type than media sync(MTP)

7. Open kingo android root and let it connect. Follow all on screen instructions than click on "root" (obviously). Wait a while and after a couple of minutes it will say "your phone now has root access". Disconnect your phone from your pc and your phone should restart. You now are rooted!

Thats it. Pretty straightforward. Any questions let me know.

Only one problem I noticed. After rooting, uninstalling system apps can cause a soft brick. If you do, your phone won't reboot and stay stuck on a startup screen that says, "lg security error". Basically don't uninstall any apps that came with the phone to avoid any problems. YOU CAN disable them in app settings.

So if you are on a prepaid carrier and running android OS 2.what-the-frick-ever then what is the point in doing this. My whole thought process is being able to get a newer OS, but, if this will just screw with this "obsolete" phone that I just spent $200 on...then I may have to question my desire to be loyal to android in the first damn place

Well if you are already rooted and don't mind being on a really old version of android than don't worry about upgrading to ICS. ICS on this phone runs smoother and with less bugs.

So basically I should root, then upgrade to ICS? I can't update to ICS through my provider at least not on the ROM currently on my phone
