Rooting

Newbie
Being new to Droid I am a bit confused and hope someone can explain this to me. I see some apps that say root needed. I looked up a bit about rooting but I am still unsure what benefit it gives you. I did however see it voids warranty which is I think a bad thing. Can someone explain the benefits and also would it also void insurance if you have it on the phone?

Depending on your phone, you could root it and unroot it with one click. Basically root gives you full access to the contents of the phone. While most people use it to tweak and make their phones faster and such, its main use for me is the ability to take a full backup. Only with a rooted phone and Titanium backup or MyBackup Pro can you make a backup that contains your apps, your market list and your game saves and app data. On other nonroot backups, you'll have to redownload your apps and lose yoir save games etc.

greetings baum,

What rooting does is give you core access to your phone. I.E.. the power to the nonsense apps that the carriers install, that you normally can't get rid of.

It also allows you to access main running files of your phone, so its very possible to muck things up.

Rooting itself is pretty non invasive, so while rooting may void your warranty, it can usually be undone, without anyone being the wiser. USUALLY!!!

Here is a link to the subforum of the phone your using. People there might be able to answer any questions you have.

Hope this helps.
