Rooting??

Bit of a newb to all sorts of tech stuff. My questin is not "how to root" (though a link would be helpful). But what do you get from rooting your phone?? Do you get to download apps that would normally cost money for free??

How to root. That depends on your handset. What you get is more options to install custom ROMS (such as those produced by cyanogen) and the ability to install apps onto the SD card.

You should know that rooting invalidates your warranty.
