running Palm OS based software on the G1???

Hey you guys :)
I am about to begin a nursing program in January nd they require us to purchase a Palm T/X PDA ($299) so we can run certain nursing apps such as a note card software, refrence material etc...
Now i was wondering, why would i buy a $300 PDA when i can get a G1 for about $200, that's a phone as well nd has a full QWERTY key-board + camera, and... has a 528 MHz processor vs the 312 MHz runnin the Palm T/X (Palm OS Garnet, 5.4.9)
So my question is could i run the Palm OS based softwares on a G1 if i get it?
Thanks!!!

I don't think that's currently an option. :(

Leave it to the "revolutionary" medical field to use an outdated platform. :D

There are many, many programs out there for the PalmOS. I just got the G1 and I like the OP I would love to use them.

Do we know of anyone who is developing a PalmOS emulator, perhaps? Or is there a way we can somehow port Palm .prc programs to Android?

I would suggest taking a look at Nokia N810($300-$400), and its older brother N800($250) that can run Palm applications(using a "emulator" software called GarnetVM). The nice thing about them is that you can use them for a lot of things like web-browsing, music, video. They aren't phones but there's a version of Skype for them. I'm not sure it would be able to run the programs you want, but it's worth checking out. There is even an earlier version N770 that you can find on ebay for below $100. I'm probably going to sell it soon after I get my G1.

Here is a post that talks about getting the Palm emulator (Garnet VM) running on the EEE. Thus it should be possible to get it going on Android too. Is anyone working on this? BTW the link to the emulator download is obsolete. If you are a developer for Access, you can download the kit.

Add me to the waiting list for a Palm OS emulator too. I want to use it on my new Archos 5 where I want to run the PlanPlus by Stephen Covey and to install the PalmOne infrared keyboard :), one of the best nice-looking portable keyboards I know. Also there are many other useful apps everybody will be able to use.

We need to recycle guys! So much effort spent creating all those applications for Palm and now nobody is going to be able to use them again? :(

Hi:

I still use my T/X and am playing with the web aspects of the Moment. You might look on Craigslist for your T/X. You should be able to pick one up for $150 or less.

When you pick one up, pm me and I can give you links for many, many free and excellent programs for the palm.

Tom

Why not just buy a Treo or a Centro and run Palm apps PLUS surf the web and have a phone all in one?
