S.yimg.com is a destructive browser hijacker which can completely take over user’s browsers after getting on their machines out of awareness.
There's no end of 'helpful' sites about this quirk. As I see it, S.Yimg is a tangent of yahoo.com or my.yahoo.com. It freezes my PC while loading my homepage, which happens to be my. yahoo. Then, when it's done after about fifteen seconds, everything works normally.
I suspect that this 'bug' is just an anomaly, an unintended punishment for still using my.yahoo. I think all these 'helpful' sites are just trying to use it to create panic, deliver 'solutions' and charge money... and you think?

Just tried loading s.yimg.com and got...
Will be right back...
Thank you for your patience.
Our engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue.
...which lends credence to my original theory.

Furthermore, it seems that yimg is a graphics machine for Yahoo. I tried blocking 's.yimg.com' in uBlock and the MyYahoo page just came up as text. So, apparently, it's not a virus, it's not malware, it's not even advertising, but it is a pain in the arse. And that lends credence to my other theory, that the endless 'fixes' available are utter poppycock.

Oh, and in case anyone is actually reading this, I'm using Firefox on Win7.
