Help S2 - Stuck Samsung-logo at boot - Data & Recovery

Jordy144

Lurker
Hello there,

Since 2 days ago my won't start up anymore. It's stuck while booting, and what I see is just the Samsung logo. I got a Samsung S2.

Now my question is, if I recover my S2, do I lose all my Whatsapp messages? I know whatsapp got an own folder on the internal memory. These Whatsapp messages are very important for me, I have messages that are still existing from 2012.

I am really worried now, and don't know what to do... I hope anyone can help me with this.

Regards,

Jordy

If you need to reset, or flash the firmware again, I'm almost certain the messages will be gone, sorry. :(

Hmm that would be a bad situation :(
But I search "s2 recovery" on youtube, I see at the most of the video's if they wipe the data, they have an option with 'erase all userdata', and you can choose between yes and no. I need 100% guarantee that my whatsapp messages won't disappear.

If not, is there any possibility to avoid this? Like to go to a phone store and let them recover my messages? I'm lost... :(

If you are rooted and have a custom recovery then yes, it should be doable (take a backup from recovery, use Titanium Backup Pro to extract just those data from the recovery backup).

Otherwise, unless you can get it booting I don't see how anyone can back the data up, especially since we don't know why it's stuck. The only thing I can suggest is:

* force a shutdown by pulling the battery, leave it out for a couple of minutes, the see whether it will boot.
* if not, shut it down again, then boot into recovery and erase cache. That is safe - may not work, but won't erase your messages.

Good chance neither of those will work, but they are non-destructive so worth a try.

I don't know the S2's stock recovery, so don't know what if anything it erases if you answer no rather than yes to that question. Obviously "yes" will wipe them, "no" sounds like it might just be giving you the option to cancel the wipe (don't own a Samsung so cannot be sure).

Thank you for your reply. The phone is stuck while booting. I litterly booted the phone up like 50 times, without success. Also I erase the cache and also it won't start up.

I came across this thread:
http://androidforums.com/threads/what-will-the-wipe-data-factory-reset-actually-wipe.521068/

I hope the guy who is helping the topicstarter is right, I will have to do this in the next 2 days if I can't find another solution.

Is there no sort of a "Live CD/Android" like Windows but then for Android to make the phone boot up?

If anyone got another solution, please let me know!
