Help S3 Model:SCH-R530 help?

NicoXIII

Newbie
I was recently given an S3 as a "Hand-me-down" since my brother was given something else. We decided to get the S3 turned on in my account, then the employee who was helping us factory reset the phone and it started acting up. The screen does not turn on, 1/3 of the time you plug it in the LED lights up for a second, and vibrates once. Has anyone encountered this problem?

EDIT: Finally fixed it, all that needed to be done was to remove the SIM card. As long as the SIM card was installed, the phone kept trying to read it, and activate from it. Removing the SIM card allowed the phone to go straight to setup.

Odd things happen. A few things you can try.
1. Pull the battery and press and hold the power button a few seconds, replace battery and see if it will boot normally.

2. See if it will boot into recovery. From off press the volume up + home+ power button till blue writing in upper left of screen appears then release power button. If it boots into recovery, use volume button to scroll to factory reset then press power to select.

If battery is charged you should get something on the display when you try these. Hard to believe a factory reset would kill the screen.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the power button is shot. Before the reset, pulling out the battery and putting it back in turned it on. My brother really did a number on it.

Hard to suggest what to try next. If that power button was stuck it would start to boot then turn off. Banging on edge of table near button usually frees it. Could be your button out of alignment with actual internal switch. Lots of take apart guides and videos available if you feel comfortable taking a look inside. Parts pretty cheap too.

Well I fiddled with it for a bit, and got it to turn on, now it takes me to a screen for language, followed by an activation screen. I can't activate it yet, so can I get pass this?

Yes, should be able to skip over it. You can go ahead and set up phone the way you want using WiFi if available. Google and play store account.

If I remember correctly, after you select language, next or skip should appear on lower right of screen. If not press home button to see if you can leave set up.

My phone has language and Start on the same screen, and clicking start brings me to the activation screen, after which it has Skip, bringing me back to screen one, or Restart button doing the same. Thank you for giving me your time on this, you've be very helpful up til now.

What model S3 do you have? I just pulled my old Verizon i535 out and did a factory reset. After selecting language and next, the next screen gave me option to enable Emergency calls or enable WiFi. Logged in on my WiFi and next screen was Google account.

If you Google "how to bypass activation on S3" comes up with YouTube videos using the four corners and volume up method. I'm not good at posting YouTube links but worth a try

I have 3 different s3's that I play around with, not your model and never had problem setting up without sim. Worth trying though.

Shouldn't. Can you pull down on the status bar and see if you can access any of its options. Kinda been hoping someone familiar with your model would jump in and save the day.

You should be able to turn off mobile data, turn on airplane mode then turn on wifi from there. Not sure if it will help though.

I think I'll just have to hold off using it until I can get it hooked onto my account, because no one seems to know what's going on. Thanks for your help Jfalls.

Sorry couldn't help find a way around it. Did a lot of searching and no good solid results. Maybe someone with the answer will chime in soon. Good luck!

I have samsung note 2, was not working for several month, screen black. But last month, I thought to throw it away, and tried my last time to check whether it would start. The surprise came, it started to work.;) What to say, good luck .
