Help S3 turns off when I boot into the camera

Whenever I try to launch the camera app, the screen goes black (turns off) then I have to reboot the phone. Anybody have any idea on what's going on and why this might be happening? It works fine when Im plugged into the charger, could I need a new battery?

Thanks

They will sometimes do that if the camera is bad, and a camera replacement takes care of it. The fact that it works when plugged in, though, is a head scratcher.

I know right? I ordered a battery. I'm figuring if it isn't the battery, it won't hurt to have a second one lying around. If it works while it's plugged in, it has to be some type of power issue. I'm just hoping that the current battery isn't outputting enough power and its not something to do with the internal connections..

Have you tried clearing cache on just the camera app?

Also - full backup (Helium is good if you're not rooted), factory data reset, and restore is known to cure a lot of woes.

Always do that to ensure that it's more likely hardware than software.

And in advance - that's not snake oil advice, it's true and based on what can go wrong with internal storage or management issues during the running life of any Android.

If you're rooted, go clear cache and Dalvik instead.

Hope this is all it is!

My old phone did exactly this when the battery was bad. Even if fully charged. I would open camera and the phone would reboot.. then once booted up I'd lose a large but random amount of battery. Sometimes as much of 70%.
