S3 - What does Clockwork Recovery wipe?

TZoBit

Lurker
I'll be installing cm on my phone for the first time soon, however as I may have mentioned before, I have almost 15gb of data and I wouldn't like to lose it as restoring it would take a long time (media etc). I've been told I must data wipe in clockwork recovery and that it only wipes apps, is this true? I don't want to spend another century restoring data through that painfully slow MTP.

If so, is there a way of doing a backup from recovery so that it only covers user data and such? not a full out nandroid, thanks.

I use Philz Recovery. It normally only wipes the app data but not the internal SD unless you tell it to. You can also make custom backups in which you can decide exactly what gets backed up. I've never ran plain CWM, most people with the S3 don't from what I've gathered. Its mainly Philz or TWRP.
