S4, S3, or something else?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to thank everyone for a very informative forum. I'm actually in the info gathering mode as I'm shopping for my first smart phone. I've kind of narrowed it down to the s4, htc one, Iphone 5, or maybe the s3.

When researching the s4, you can't help but read about it's issues, and the one that concerns me the most is wifi connectivity with certain routers. It appears to be a problem with D-Link, but I'm reading about it affecting routers of other manufacture, Linksys, Belken, etc.

I can't really make changes to my home router (linksys E2500) as my Wife uses it for work, and if I start messing with settings, it'll never work again, and my wife will get my new smart phone in the divorce.

So, does the s3 have an issue with wifi connectability? I really, really like the s4 form and function but don't want to be Samsung's r & d department. I'm thinking maybe the s3 is a safer bet as it's been out for a while.

Keep in mind, I'm not techincally inclined, my phone has to work out of the box without a lot of technical gymnastics on my part.

Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

Regards,

Steve

Hello and welcome, desmoface.

I've moved your question/thread into the comparison area here... folks gather here to talk things over about the different choices they have, etc. ;)

The HTC One is the best of the lot you list, in my opinion.

Considering the Note 2?

Hi Frisco, sorry about posting in the wrong area, thanks for straightening me out.

A lady I work with has the note, it's awesome, if a bit too big for my needs. The s4 looks great to me, I got to play with one at the att store and I like it. I'm just concerned that I'll have the wifi issue and that's a deal breaker for me.

I suspect if it doesn't work, I'd be able to swap it out for an htc one with att, or possibly the iphone. I actually have a lot of apple stuff at home, ipad, imac, various ipods, and their stuff actually works quite well. It's just that the iphone screen seems so small after handling the s4, LOL.

Thanks again for the advice.

That seems to be the best solution.
If you like the S4 that much, just go with it. And if you have issues with Wifi, return it. (Hopefully you don't damage the phone beforehand).

The S3 is still a great phone. Heck, I still think my Galaxy S2 is good.
Since you're not too tech savvy, I don't think the S3 -> S4 would matter too much. They are basically the same size so they should feel about the same. And Samsung announced that they will release most of the features from the S4 to the S3.
As for Wifi issues on the S3, I have 6 friends who own one and have not mentioned a single time to me (I'm basically their "go-to guy" for phone problems) anything regarding Wifi issues.
