phone turned blank

My phone started cutting off periodically and then one day turned blank. It is charging but won't start it freezes at the black and white home screen and once I got a software warning screen. I just want to salvage what I can from it as I've had it for two years already and it might be time for an upgrade but I really like the size of it. The new phones are so big and not so graceful.
