Help S5 and Instagram crashing constantly

I had an S3. and never had a crash in instagram if I can recall correctly. Since getting an S5, instagram crashes like it's a damn feature. Probably half a dozen times a day on average. I've tried clearing the cache. It'll work fine for awhile, then suddenly you'll be scrolling or whatever and bang..freezes. It'll never recover. You have to bring up the app switcher and remove it to get it to restart. Sometimes it'll go hours in between crashes, other times just a few minutes.

only about 5% of the time do I get an actual "instagram has stopped responding" error which allows me to send an error report, but I have sent at least a dozen of those.

Anyone else experiencing this?
 
I have the exact same problem with my S5 ! I can't use Instagram without it crashing and it is royally pissing me off because I cannot find a fix for it anywhere!

So you are not alone my friend, happens time after time!
 
Could be a particular problem with a certain version of the S5, possibly carrier customized version. Probably worth emailing Instagram about it, file a bug report. What exact version of the S5 have you got, what version Android, was it supplied by a carrier, e.g. Verizon? If it was a general problem with the Instagram, lot's of people would be howling about it probably.

Nah but the thing is I have had my S5 since release and have had Instagram on this phone since I got the phone upon release. It was totally fine to start with, just over the past say 6 - 8 months it has been crashing on a ridiculous basis, nearly everytime it crashes I send the crash report and a message to Instagram but nothing seems to be getting fixed :/

I have the SM-G900I with Android version 4.4.2 and got the phone on contract through Vodafone

Yeah you're not the only one. Not only does Instagram keep crashing but contacts keeps not responding for me too? Super weird.
 
I have a Galaxy S4. Every time I look at or even scroll by a video on IG, it freezes the entire app. Usually lasts for a couple of minutes. I also noticed IG videos tend to blank out. The video screen will go either all black or all white. I can still hear the video but I can't see it. I have to go completely out of the app and then back in to see the video. Really frustrating.
