Help S5 issues in Germany

rpacecar

Lurker
morning all,

I moved from US to Germany, have an unlocked s5 with a new sim. Everything is working for the most part, just one issue:

If I send a message to say 0151 387 56589 (John) the message sends fine. If I send a few more fine... If John replies, I cant send anymore. Basically it drops the first 0 in his number and makes it a +49. if I start a new message to John it will send and show up in the previous conversation. I have to do this for anyone that replies or sends me a message. I checked the contacts, removed them and re added still happens. The number is fictitious for the sake of posting.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums rpacecar :)

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 35 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 3 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4 and Android 5.0.0. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

(TIP If you are a poster it is a good idea to mention your model number and firmware version in case this has a bearing on your problem.

Better still, if you have 25+ posts to your name, you can go to the black bar at the top of this forum and click on your Username, which will show a drop down menu. Just select, "Signature", and you can enter in the signature box the details of your phone, i.e. - "Galaxy S5 G900F".This ensures that your device details are shown in every post you make. You can update this as often as you like and will help other users immediately identify your phone and firmware.

Thanks rpacecar.

It sounds as though the phone/network is trying to work out the international dial code. For instance, the UK = +44. If whomever you are texting, is in say, the USA try amending the number in your contacts to +151 387 56589 (John) to see if that helps.

your assessment seems accurate to me, the problem is I'm texting my coworkers in Germany, if they send me a text it shows up as John 0151 387 56589. i reply ok. when he then replies it says +49151 387 56589. His contact is stored as 0151.... any ideas?

It is all down to how your operator handles the calls. It seems it is replacing the local German area code of 0151 with the country code for Germany = +49151. For mobile numbers you remove the lead, "0" and add +49 for Germany. So a mobile number of, say, 07941 123 123 becomes +447941 123 123. Try changing the contacts number as I have described to see if that helps. I store all my numbers with the, "+", and country code as this means I can dial or text that number from anywhere in the world.

nope, only works if the +49 isnt there and the 0 is

You may need to speak to T-Mobile (Germany) as to how they handle calls and numbers on an American phone model, G900V, on Verizon firmware but with a local, T-Mobile (Germany), sim as they appear to be adding the country code as if you were dialling from outside Germany.
