I have no data /cell signal at school. With my s3 I compensated by using wifi for everything, but since upgrading to Galaxy s5 wifi no longer works.

It says I'm connected, says there is full signal strength. But when I try to go on the internet it just hangs.

Forgetting and retrying does nothing, rebooting doesn't help.

Tried changing the Gateway IP and DNS entries, and all that did was give me an error message that I don't have internet access.

Works fine at home and most other places. The only other place it does this is at work, but the S3 always had that problem at work too, and I can use data there if I really need to.

You may have to get the new S5's MAC address registered on the school network. You'll have to speak to the IT admin about that. Corporate networks are often the same, device MAC addresses have to be registered before you can connect them, even if you know the WiFi passwords. It's a security measure to try and stop unauthorized devices being used. Sometimes you might be required to install their WAPI certificate, before the device can connect.
