S5 won't power on after screen replacement

I am fixing a phone for a friend that had been in his back pocket and he sat on it and the screen cracked. I ended up replacing the bottom circuit board for the home button/back button because I had accidently torn the back button ribbon.

After getting that switched, I was testing the screen before I glued the screen in and it won't power up. I plugged it in thinking it was dead and the charging battery popped up with the percentage. as the phone starts going to sleep, I can hit the home button or the volume buttons to keep it from going to sleep. so, they are working, but the power isn't.

He wasn't for sure if it powered up after he cracked it. Is there anything else it can be??

It's possible when he sat on it there was damage to other components besides the screen. If there was enough bending or twisting force applied to the main circuit board it could have been broken. In that case it won't be worth repairing although unfortunately you've already invested the money and time into replacing the display.
There really isn't any way to tell without disassembling the phone further and even then you might not be able to spot the damage. It's probably best to write it off and have him replace it. Also have him stop carrying his phones in his back pocket.

That's what I'm afraid of. luckily I haven't actually installed the screen so I could use it to fix another. I have another phone i could take the main board out of and just have to do a factory reset on it. I switched the outer casing with the power button with another this morning and it does the same thing. can see battery charging but no power on.

It had a cracked screen as well. got it from a friend that just bought a new one. He's also thinking about switching phone providers.

If you know that the other one is functional other than the cracked screen and it's compatible with his service, then you could install the replacement screen on that one. Otherwise it would be easier to get a good one from Swappa.
If I somehow managed to trash my S5 (unlikely but not impossible) and wasn't looking to change phones that's what I would do.
