S7 Edge email sync settings not working

Just like the title says...

I picked up this phone yesterday because my note 4 croaked and there is nothing else on the market that I like. I set everything up and noticed so far this morning that I am chugging through battery. When I went to look for the culprit, the top of the list was Email. I had already set everything up to sync manually, but I went back to doublecheck and sure enough, still set to manually. The problem is, both email accounts are syncing continuously. I even have the "refresh folders" setting turned to off. What gives here?

Update. seems to be an issue with just the hotmail account and not the gmail. I deleted the hotmail account am trying to re-add it now, but it doesn't want to cooperate. It gets to the "checking incoming server settings" screen and the circle just keeps spinning. I've tried several times, but it's just doing the same thing over and over...

Try using an alias. Hotmail is technically dead, and is now Outlook.com. They allow you to create an alias with an outlook.com address, where emails sent to that goes to the same inbox. Basically, you'd have 2 email addresses with the same inbox. Then try to use the alias on logging in the email app.

I just chatted with someone from VZW and they told me that they're basically pushing the ability to use the email app for hotmail out the window and wanting everyone to download the outlook app. She said that on old phones that are already set up, it's fine and they won't force you to make any changes. She also told me that on new phones being set up initially, it shouldn't be an issue either. Hence, no issues setting it up when i got my phone yesterday. But for people trying to add later on, you my have issues.

Anyway, i couldn't get it to work so i tried the outlook app. didn't love it. just downloaded the TypeApp app and I like it. very slick and tons of features. gonna stick with this for a while. and no issues syncing hotmail and gmail with either the TypeApp app or the Outlook app when I test drove that one.
