S7 Edge - Moisture Error When Charging in Car

K6RIM

Lurker
Galaxy S7 Edge. Has been flawless for 5 months. Today updated software to 6.0.1. Since the update, I get a moisture error in the car when the phone is connected to 12V. When there is a moisture error, the phone will not charge. The phone has NOT been exposed to moisture. Tried a different (known good) charging cable, same result. In the car, when a USB cable is connected to the phone, there is no moisture error and it charges normally. At home, the phone charges normally either with the AC (wall) cable or on a wireless charging pad.

I don't believe there is a moisture issue because the phone has not been exposed to moisture AND because the the phone will charge normally in the instances described above.

Not sure if the 6.0.1 software update today created the issue, but it seems suspicious.

The problem was not solved by a full reboot or a wipe cache partition.

Questions:

1. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

2. Solution?

Thanks!

How and where is your phone connected to power in your car?

Those questions were addressed in my original post.

Have you tried tapping the 12 V from different locations in the car?

Yes. There are three locations to connect to 12V. Same issue with all.

Have you tried alternative USB plugs (not cables) in your car?

There is no issue using USB - issue occurs only when plugged in to 12V.

Does this happen with the car running and off?

Yes.

SOLUTION:

This is very strange:

For the last five months, I have used a Motorola charging cable in my car. It plugs into the 12V (cigarette lighter) jack. It has worked to charge the S7 Edge since I bought it five months ago. Never had a moisture error with this cable.

When the moisture error surfaced a few days ago, the first thing I tried was swapping out a new Motorola cable which I had as a reserve. The moisture error also occurred with the new Motorola cable.

So my conclusion was that the moisture error was not caused by the (Motorola) cable.

Today I decided to try the (Radio Shack) charging cable that my wife uses in her car. Bingo! It worked! There was no moisture error, and the phone charges normally using the 12V jack.

Problem solved!

The mystery is why the Motorola cable, even a new one, suddenly caused a moisture error. After all, it had worked fine for the last five months. The only change to the phone was the 6.0.1 software update.

But the bottom line is that replacing the 12V charging cable resolved the problem.

I have the same exact problem and I'm also using a Motorola car Charger. It charges fine in the house I only get the error when charging in the car. I think I started getting the error after that update also.

It's been almost a year since I replaced the Motorola charging cable, and the issue has not reappeared.

So my suggestion is to replace the charging cable with a non-Motorola brand.
