Help S7 Froze Up a Dozen Times Yesterday!

Okay, so I'm not actually sure if it was a full dozen, but it's possible. Five different times yesterday, I picked up my phone to use it for whatever reason, and it was frozen on the "always on display." At the time, I didn't know holding the power button needed to be for 12 seconds, so I didn't do it long enough, and thought I was stuck. So it went unusable for several minutes before it rebooted itself. I tried plugging it into a charger, having someone facebook message me, and I used a landline to call it. It rang on the other end but the phone did nothing. I had an S2 that the power button quit working on, so I used to know lots of ways to force the screen on..lol

So, that's five times just that I picked it up to use it. One time I pulled it out of my pocket, and it was in the middle of rebooting. So that's once that I almost didn't know about. And because it's only freezing on the "always on display," there's no way to see that there's a problem with the phone until you pick it up to use it.

It's a week old, Verizon model being used on StraightTalk, bought from Amazon. New, not refurb. Thoughts?

Hmm, try to boot into recovery and clear the cache only, not data, then reboot.
I'm just driving by here but I'm sure there is a way to boot into recovery ;)

Hmm, not sounding good.
I would surmise being a week old, see if you can return the device. I'm sure that ST is going to have you try a factory reset to try and resolve the issue, so that may be an option. Just be sure to save anything you need first ;)

i have been struggling with the same issue. Samsung is refusing to accept the problem claiming that its a problem with the SD card which is a Samsung original. they dont want to change my phone. Absolutely pathetic service from Samsung. I am quite disappointed with the response and the product. Never again.

If you remove the SD card and the problem is fixed, then the SD card is the problem, not the phone. That means popping in a new non faulty SD card will fix the issue. The phone department of Samsung does not handle problems with the SD card.

Depending on the files and where you downloaded the files, that would definitely void your warranty.
Can you turn on developer options and get the logs?
I can read through your logs and tell you what is exactly the cause of your issue.
Thanks~

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back. I took the SD card out for several days, and it seems to freeze less often, but still freezes. It also killed the charger it came with. It spends the entire time it's on it losing the connection, getting it back, losing it, getting it back. I have to put it on silent and set it on the floor face down so it'll leave me alone. It's only the factory charger that it came with that does it. Now it's getting so bad that I had a dead phone at 3:30am yesterday when I got up with my baby. It lost the connection and never regained it. It's not loose, dirty, etc. It's like when you're using a charger that doesn't agree with your phone, different voltage or whatever.

Did the card have anything moved to it that you didn't move back when you removed it?

You could try running the device on safe mode without a card.

I hadn't moved anything to the SD card since putting it into this phone. There may be some stray stuff from moving apps to it on my last phone (S5).

The "return or replace item" is no longer available for it. I bought it on Amazon. It showed Samsung as the seller when I bought it, but now in my orders, it shows someone else. I just sent a message to that someone else.

How do you read the logs ...?? I'm having a similar issue with a galaxy s7 that is dragging some serious ass .. Its slow, it freezes and it forces reboots at the minimum of two times each day! Even after rebooting it takes forever to actually start back up...

I also keep getting ⚠ indicator that claims my device is overheating..causing significant battery drain...
Thoughts..?

Once you save the Logs using developer options you will see the log file in "My Files".
Then you would be able to read logs.
As for your "indicator" it means that you are pushing the CPU Usage to the limit which is causing the sluggishness, heat from the device. That could not be helped with because every user is different. The only time I believe that you would have a argument point is if you do not have many applications running and have not multi-tasked fpr a long period of time...
The best thing for you to do is call your carrier and report this issue. If you say that this is constant especially the force reboot twice a day is a critical issue. Hope this helps!
