Safe to put ice pack on android while charging/playing games?

Hi.
My phone gets really hot and slow when I charge it. 47/52 celcius is not uncommon to see. So I tried to put a makeshift ice pack on it.
It went down to 28 Celsius! And battery voltage showed 4.2 volts compared to normal 3.2 volts.

So I'm wondering if this is safe for my phone?

The temperature-sensible part of a phone is the battery.

The Li-Ion battery's temperature operating range is:
for discharging -20C (-4F) to +60C (+140F).
for charging 0C (+32F) to +45C (+113F).

The battery won't be charged if the temperature is below 0C (+32F) or above +45C (+113F) because the phone's charge controlling will project the battery.
Therefore it'll shut down charging until the battery's temperature will meet again the charge operating range.

BTW, 4.2V while charging shows my battery without ice pack ;)

I have used an ice pack with my phone when streaming video, while connected to my tv, with no problem. I used to do this for most of the day, and never had an issue.

I would be worried that heat + cold would cause condensation (moisture), but I'll defer to the people who have actually tried it.

I was just thinking, if laptops can have those cooler fan things to keep it cool, maybe you can just put a fan next to your phone with out using ice as that could risk condensation?

I am lucky to have a cool running phone but when using it as a hotspot for Netflix on the Wii and charging it can get warm. I pop the case/battery cover off and slide out the qwerty.

My suggestion is when you upgrade your phone buy something with a Qualcom Snapdragon. They strait own power wise and stay cool. Check out the butter benchmark. Very happy with the Snapdragon S2 in the phone I have now. Overclocked by 45%, and charging with both wifi and 3g both pulling a heavy load is the only time I get the heat issue and it never goes out of acceptable range, I just don't like how hot to the touch it is.

This right here sums it up it would be your biggest enemy. I think it would depend on where you live to how this will affect you. Personally I don't think I would take the risk since most phones have the sticker to show water. There is a good chance if it did get water damage it would void the warranty on the phone.

Might wanna look at trying a fan it would not cool as well as a ice pack but it would be much safer.
