Sammy user, may switch to LG - convince me

thaKing

Android Enthusiast
Longtime Samsung user. I currently have the Note 4 and was considering the Note 7 when it was first announced - glad I didn't. So I went to a local ATT store and played with the V20. It seemed pretty slick.

My pluses: removable battery, expandable storage
My minuses: no app drawer

So convince me, why should I get the V20 instead of the S7, or wait for something else from Samsung? Is my only option for all my apps to create folders and store the apps in there? I prefer a minimalistic screen, so lots of folders is not ideal and clutter. I also use Nova Launcher Pro, how well will that work without a drawer?

Just the second screen? ;) It was definitely interesting. Still unsure about not having an app drawer - is my only option to have folders on the home screen?

Check out many of the YouTube videos on Android 7. I think they have the app draw.
5.7 screen, current processor, removable battery and SD card.
Mil spec and metal body. LG is a good brand.
So, what more do you want?

Lateck,

Lateck,
The version I played with at ATT did not have an app drawer. I know it's nitpicking but I'm so used to having one it may take some getting used to. And a phone can have Android 7 and still not be a good phone. I've never had an LG. I'm definitely leaning that way, just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into with an LG.

What is a app drawer?
On your Android phone you have a button/icon that takes you to a "screen" with every single app you've installed. Only shortcuts are placed on your homescreen(s). With LG, there is no drawer and all apps you install are installed automatically on your homescreen, thus cluttering it up (in my opinion).

You can other launchers like Nova or the stock Google one, right?

I did get the Note 7. I'm actually still using it because I want to wait for this phone. (Still no release date for Verizon, ugh!) I researched for a good replacement option and this is part of what convinced me to choose the LG V20:

Second screen, they say its a gimmick not true use t all the time, removable battery 10% power to 100% in seconds how can you go wrong ?. It does have an app drawer by default it doesn't show it but you can go under settings & change it, watch the tips & tricks videos on youtube. has a great camera & manual video is a awesome feature. Had the galaxy s3,s4 active & s5 before I switched to the V10 no issues, so no problem switching.

Excellent info jaydub110! I am pretty sure this will be my next phone.

I've just returned my Note 7 and chose V20 as replacement.

For me,

Plus: larger screen (no edges), IR blaster (can save/record from your remote), 2nd screen (I like this better than the apps edge), manual camera controls such as focus peaking, Nougat (can tweak multi-screen for all apps without rooting), high-quality audio capture, removable battery (though not really a big deal for me)
Minus: Note 7 camera is still better overall, no IP68

1. Shortcuts-
-for an example I used when switching from the note 5 when you had to select new or existing contact to send a picture. Was so annoying! On the LG you can share to wherever from an unobtrusive shortcut that pops up after you take the picture. Quick and simple.
Take pic
Select where to share on a shortcut/slide out (or just tap the one that pops up (most used or last used. not sure).
Type in name then send or tap share (facebook).
-Camera/note quick open from lock
-double tap to wake
-smart settings
-second screen shortcuts
I always mess up when using the "window drawer" but not when using the second screen.
Adds shortcuts so you don't need as many widgets.

2. Battery swapping!!!
I can't remember the last time I plugged my actual phone in other than on work trips and in the car.

3. Second screen
I love not being interrupted while reading on my phone. IDK why no one else has done this! (plus the shortcuts)

Those are my main reasons.

4. Memory card

5. App drawer? Use a launcher! I prefer Aviate for streamlining and more shortcuts. Or, see above reply.

Question: how do you charge spare batteries - is it something that comas with the phone, or does one need to purchase it as an add on? Thinking back to Palm Treo days.... #nostalgia

to notacoach, usually if you buy a second battery it will come with its own stand alone charger for easy charging by itself. Basically you insert the battery into this thing and then plug it in to the wall outlet. Don't have a picture at the moment but I'm sure 2 seconds on Google could yield you a picture of what it looks like.

OK, you've convinced me completely. :) Now I need to figure out the best place to purchase. I'd rather not go through ATT. Where is the best place to purchase?

B+H and NewEgg both sell it unlocked for the same price. B+H will give you a free tablet, NewEgg will give you a free tablet and powerbank, plus you'll still be eligible for the free B+O headphones with either company.

It pays to be on Android!

Score $15 OFF $100+ when you check out with Android Pay on the Newegg app! Use promo code: ANDROID6

there's an option to have the app drawer no biggie...only loss here is the pen, the 2nd screen is actually very useful showing an actual notification and better looking than a flashing notification light

B&H was where I was actually looking. I'll take a gander at NewEgg as well and see which option works best for me.

Nope, that's what I needed to know! I remember in days of yore when removable batteries were the norm, you had to *buy* the separate charger...which is what I was hoping not to have to do :)

did anyone mention you can turn on the app drawer in the stock software? It's there and it's an option.

there's so many more options than I've seen on other phones. do you want your apps in alphabetical order, download order, or however you move then - sure.

App drawer or no app drawer - sure want your home screens to loop though - sure.

turn on app drawer - settings - home screen - select home screen, there are 3 options the last one is home with seperate apps list.

Can you believe Verizon did away with "Smart Settings"???
No Home Screen Loop for me.
