Samsung A5 phone, Samsung A tablet

Whilst it might make sense to me, hopefully it won't get confusing as and when I post referring to either of my devices, (got a Samsung TV also) .

My phone is a yr old, replaced an iphone and tablet 48 hrs old, replaced an ipad. I had wandered across from android thinking apple was better, but didn't really feel comfortable with either. So onwards and upwards with android.

On starting up the tablet I see there is an icon with 9 dots, on clicking it takes me to the preinstalled apps, plus those I have introduced myself, plus quick-start links to saved sites.

But, this is a duplication as I have them on screens when I swipe. Is it better to removed those by dragging to bin, and then on start up, click the icon titled "apps" and proceed from there?

That icon is your app drawer shortcut.
Once you click it, choose a app icon from the app drawer and long press it and drag it to the home screen if you want.
That app drawer icon will be on all screens btw, it's part of the dock.
