Samsung account locked due to abnormal factory reset

mightymom

Newbie
After 2 years with my S6 I decided to perform a factory reset because things have gotten bogged down.
I haven't reset a phone in eons & wasn't aware I needed to log out of accounts before attempting a reset.
Samsung has locked me out of my Samsung account. My phone still works, though I can't reset it.
After attempting to reset the password with one of their tech folks on the line they sent me to another dept, they are telling me I need proof of purchase (which I have) and that I will have to return the phone to have the block removed.

Running stock nougat, not rooted or anything like that.

The phone works, just can't reset it, locked out of Samsung account only
AT&T
Samsung galaxy S6

What a PITA

Assuming you've backed up everything on your phone already, you should be able to factory reset if you go into settings>>accounts and remove all accounts and security prior to factory reset.

Ok, called Samsung, they're saying my phone will lock me out of everything if I attempt a reset.

I emailed my proof of purchase to them. Now they want to send me a UPS sticker for the return of my phone. I leave for Hawaii in less than 2 weeks.
This is a great big load of dookie.

They're full of bovine feces. Were you able to delete the Samsung account from the phone? WTF difference does it make if you have a Samsung account or not, the phone is registered with Google and AT&T, unless they threw in some bogus version of FRP which I've never heard of.

Um ... I really hate to say, but are you sure you are talking to Samsung? There are a lot of fake support numbers floating around that will try to scam you.

It's because I tried to reset the phone while logged in to their account. No, I can't delete the account because I'm locked out.
I understand the issue of keeping people's information safe, but Geeze-us. I provided proof of purchase. What now? My left kidney?

Package Disabler Pro may still be worth a shot starting at step 7 in the link since the only thing you are locked out of is the Samsung account.
It's a paid app but worth the money especially if you want to disable and hide any bloat.

Ugh! This is the stuff that drives me absolutely insane. Don't get me wrong, I am all in favor of added security, but at the point security starts interfering with normal operation, then it's too much. The fact that a locked account requires the device must be sent back to the manufacturer is almost comical (except when it happens to you :( ).

I have a theory. It's a bug. A very embarrassing bug. Given Samsung's previous embarrassment with the Note 7, they are on high alert to keep this stuff quiet so they don't get additional media heat. I also see that it has not been included since the S6 so even Samsung realized it was a bad idea.

I'd push a little harder. Who knows, maybe you can wheedle an S7 or S8 out of them (for free, of course. ;) ) Couldn't hurt. :D

My last Samsung was an S2 ;) My wife and son are both big Samsung fans, but I just never liked what they do to Android.

I found a cell phone repair place close to home that can unlock the phone with proof of purchase for $40.00. I'd imagine they're using the apk software described above.
I'm going to research new (ish) phones & sell this one after the repair/replacement.
Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions, it's greatly appreciated.

My guess is they are just going to flash the stock firmware. If they can get it into download mode, it's not to hard to do. Of course that will completely wipe the phone, but if they are giving you a guarantee it will work, then it's probably $40 well spent.

If they are doing what I think they are doing, then when you get it back it will be as if you just got it from the store and you'll need to set it up again. This time DON' T use a Samsung account. Use only your Google account. ;)

When this is over, I'm deleting my Samsung account. I've read threads where folks sent their phone to Samsung for this problem & got emails stating "your mic, speaker, other internal parts" are in need of replacement, send 70/80/100 dollars....then got their phone back, still locked out of their Samsung account.
If I can get this one unlocked, it's going on Ebay.

Just one final question ... when you got it back unlocked, was it factory fresh? or did it still have your account on it?
