Samsung Firmware Update ETA???

dnelms

Newbie
Writing on behalf on my sister, who has the Samsung Galaxy 2 (Epic 4G) through Sprint. She has only has the phone right at a month and the last update (A few days ago, which reading I assumed was the ICS firmware update) has the phone doing lots of different things. The menus will boune up and down just holding the phone, screens will come up without touching anything other than the sides of the phone, it vibrates as if it is doing osmething, but isn't. I suggested she go back by her Sprint store becuase i felt she just had a bad phone. They right away said it was the ICS update from Samsung that was causing the problems and she was at the mercy of their schedule. They did try a factory reset, but that did not help.

Her question was, does anyone have any ideas of an ETA for Samsung to issue an update to fix these problems?

I have read all over this forum & even on other forums, and to answer your question 1st, nobody on any forum knows a date or a confirmed fix from either Samsung or Sprint. I have the battery issue and have tried the factory reset with no help also. I just read yesterday about removing the SD card, which I am trying now to see if that helps any.
I would definetly call customer service and try to get another phone from sprint. I can deal with a battery problem but not a phone doing all the different stuff her phone seems to be doing. What I have read on the forums is phones are having different issues, some are battery, some are apps not working...
I would try for another phone maybe it will be better option at the moment.
Good luck.

Could always just root and flash a custom rom. I've been running on ICS (4.0.4) for a while now with none of the issues it seems Sammy/Sprint's version is having.

I've been having similar issues. Random screens pop up, buttons are unresponsive for several seconds after completing a previous activity, GPS gives me fits (usually have to turn off/on GPS a time or two before it works). It was great when I first got it, but things have gone rapidly downhill. I never had these issues with my EVO 4G. Samsung stinks, HTC rocks!

Edit: I retract the statement that it was great when I first got it. I had forgotten about the cell connection drop issue in weak areas, and having to reboot to reconnect, and the GPS issue that was fixed by an update.

She lives a good bit away from me and rooting the phone is something she nor her husband would ever attempt. Fact is, it should work fine with no root.... but after the ICS update it is doing all sorts of wierd things.

She did tale the phone back, they did a reset, but no luck. They also told her she would just have o wait on Samsung to issue a fix.

I can confirm, after using ICS for a day, that it doesn't correct the random menu pop-up issue, nor does it fix the temporary button unresponsiveness. Maybe it's a hardware problem with my unit, where the touch sensor is registering phantom touches.

Aside from that, it seems to be working fine (so far).

I recieved mine 2 days ago. My girlfriend has the white version .she has not recieved her update.funny thing is we bought both are phones and the same day .go figure

HI all,
I have had the same random menu popping up, haptic feedback going off for no reason, etc. for about 2 weeks. 6 week old phone. Now, I managed to take a video of this happening and show it to the people at the sprint store. Why? Because I think it's tied to when the signal gets very low and the phone is trying to reconnect.
Of course this won't ever happen INSIDE a Sprint store, for obvious reasons.
So, I got my new phone (not refurbished, verified by activation date) today, and whadya know? Same issues.
Going back tomorrow.
By the way, I"m on stock Gingerbread with this phone. On previous one behavior was consistently happening on both Gingerbread and ICS. I upgraded thinking that would solve the problem.
Take a look folks and really pay attention to when the menus fly. I'll bet you'll find it happens when searching for 3g, with less than 2 bars on phone signal.

Be Well
