Samsung Galaxy Fame Opinions/Advice/Suggestions?

I want to get my Dad a new phone for Christmas. He's 60 but enjoys tech and new fangled stuff. He currently has a HTC TyTN II which he's had for years and only really uses it for calls, texts and GPS & maps when walking the dog. I don't even think he uses email on it as overall it's really quite slow.

I'm also now looking at the Xperia L but I hear there is a memory issue?

My bf has a HTC with a similar problem and is constantly resetting his phone and can only make calls and texts I don't want this for my Dad. If I was to buy a brand new Xperia L would this problem be solved by now?
