Samsung Galaxy Indulge kernel question

Hey everyone! First post here... been using this for alot of my issues with my phone issues but the one I'm having now is confusing me. I have rooted the phone and can use the wifi-tether app with no problem (version 3.0-pre13)

I guess before I continue I should give a little info about the phone itself:

Phone: Samsung Galaxy Indulge
Firmware: Android 2.2.1
Carrier: MetroPCS

Now my initial issue was that I could tether my phone to things wirelessly but the NAT type is always really restrictive (2 or 3) so it works for downloading things but obviously any online multiplayer is either bad or non-exsistant

Anyway I did some googling and i've seen form posts that suggested that loading a new kernel onto my phone might resolve the issue. So my questions are:

a) is this true?
b) is it dangerous? (ie might it brick the phone?)
c) If it is true and it is unlikely to brick the phone, where might I find these kernels and instructions on how to flash them onto my phone?

Well I spent a couple hours yesterday messing around with this... I installed CWM, Basix and the ElectricSheep kernel, and things haven't changed :( I kinda figured they wouldn't but I thought I'd give it a try.

I will say that wither because of ElectricSheep or Basix, the battery life seems improved which is nice (battery life has always been an issue with this phone) Also, Basix modernizes the stock UI quite a bit which I like

I guess what I'm trying to say is that while it did not resolve my issue, I got some nice stuff out of the deal overall

One word of warning: when I did all this, I lost ALL the stock ringtones and sounds...I still haven't been able to get them back, so anyone who sees this thread later on, be warned!
