I was updating my Samsung Galaxy J5 phone to the latest version. I downloaded the update and during the installation of the update, the error message came out, then the system rebooted to the Samsung logo and it just hanged there forever. I tried to force reset it by pressing n holding the volume up n power keys together but after the reset, the screen hanged again. Is there any way I can re-download or reinstall the update for the phone to work properly?
 
Hi, i am the thread starter. Thanks, I will try this out. Sorry but how do I find out the model number and serial number of the phone? Which version of the Kies should i download, 2.6 or 3 for the PC?
 
I would try Kies3. If your phone not supported you will have to use Smart Switch. Instructions a little different but just as easy.
I just looked at J5 specs and shows it has a removable battery. Should be a sticker on phone under the battery with model number and SN.
 
I have opened Kies 3, connected the cable from the phone to pc and switched on the phone to recovery mode. Now the phone is in the light blue background with the message saying "Downloading... Do not turn off target" Is it correct? But it seems to be taking quite some time already
 
Did it accept your model number and SN?
I usually don't connect phone until PC starts downloading the firmware. It should prompt you when to connect.
Entire process takes about 30 to 45 min.
 
After i entered in my model and serial number in the PC, it asked me to switch on the phone to recovery mode then connect the cable to the phone? I am not sure whether the PC is downloading the firmware, cos i cant click the "Start upgrade" button yet. But it seems like the phone is downloading the firmware?
 
It takes a while for it to download to PC then a while to flash to phone after you click start. Good time for a cup of coffee.
It is still faster than downloading the firmware your self from Sammobile and flashing with Odin. Also takes the guess work out of choosing the correct firmware for your country/carrier.
 
It has always irked me that it says to connect in recovery mode when it is actually download mode. Gets confusing.
 
Sorry i just woke up. i left my phone in recovery mode with the downloading screen for the whole night and when i woke up, the phone is still in the same screen with the message " Downloading... Do not turn off target". And in the "Software Update and Initialization" window in Samsung Kies, the "Start Upgrade" button is still not clickable. Why is it taking so long?
 
Wow I tried this method again by plugging the USB cable from the phone to the other port behind the PC, and this time it worked. Thank u so much for ur help!
