Help Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 to TV USB probs

Hey guys! Yes, for most of you who are quite tech-savvy this may seem like a dumb question...but I am somewhat of a novice, and I am finding no answers that are specific to my device so I thought I would ask here. Can you tell me what is needed to watch media from my Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 to my TV USB? After hooking up via USB port, the TV recognizes the device fine and will play sound, music, etc., but no TV or movies; the TV isn't the problem- it is the phone that gives the error message. The message my phablet gave was that I needed something from Samsung (I cannot remember the message fully, and I am not where I can try it again right now). Do I need adapter, a program or app, or software upgrade...what do I need? Can anyone help with this?
Thanks for any help or advice as it is much appreciated!

That's from 2011 - is that what you meant to link?

Anyway - the Mega 5.8 doesn't have any means to connect to a TV's HDMI port by any means - no MHL adapter, no usb tricks.

As you've discovered, it can be read by the TV as USB storage - your TV sees it no differently than it would a USB stick. Despite the ads, built-in TV support for movie playback is pretty slim, usually to the point of being useless.

And if you have a Roku Stick, you can connect your android to HDTV,Via,Miracast
^ This.

Also possible with an Android Fire TV Stick.

Chromecast is usually better but you can't screen cast with it without KitKat or better.
