Samsung Galaxy Portal- Help Required

Hi guys, I'm a bit of a phone novice so please be gentle with me. I hope you can help me and this makes any sense!?

My wife bought the above phone a few weeks ago, on a monthly contract from 3. After a couple of days the phone started randomly rebooting. To the point it was every twenty minutes or so. We took the phone in and they replaced us with a new handset straight away.

An hour or so later the problems started again, so we went straight back into the shop and they informed us it must be her sim card. At that point they gave her a new sim.

That seemed to sort the problem out, but in the last week or so the random "rebooting" has started again for no apparent reason. It's getting slowly worse, with it happening about ten times today already.

Is this a common problem?

Thanks in advance guys and girls :)

Very odd and I cant help you apart from, my girlfriend has the same phone on the 3 network and it has never happened to her one. Just out of interest here is what her system info is.

Model Number
GT-I5700

Firmware Version
2.1 update1

Baseband Version
i570EXXJC

Kernel Version
2.6.29
root@SE-S611 #2

Build number
ECLAIR.XXJCD

Check the above is the same and If its not then it could be an old version of the OS or anything else.

I'm new to Android myself and have no idea about the technical details just thinking that as both the phones are the same and on 3 and my gf's is stable and your wifes is not you might see a differing version number some where to give a clue to it being the phone :)

her phone is exactly the same as ur girlfriends same numbers and everything. Do you think she shud take it back to shop and get a new phone all together?

Could do but it does seem odd how your wifes phone keeps doing it? My gf got hers a couple of weeks back and it has never done it???

You could ask for another replacement phone but I'm sure you have both lost faith in this phone... I know 3 offer 28 days cooling off period and that their unlimited internet is capped at 500meg and I spent 4 hours on the phone to Bangladesh to get the internet add on for free on both our contracts.

So you might be better off just dumping 3 while you can and go else where.

IMO I really like the Galaxy Portal and have found it issue free apart from it has a 750mghz processor and can bog down when running Android ver 2.1 so maybe look at a slightly better phone to future proof it as most contracts are for 2 years in the UK so when Gingerbread comes out the phone might not like it. But my gf is very happy with hers.

well this phone is an upgrade so i dont know how it would work. she has had her phone just sitting on the arm on the sofa and it has done it about 6 times and she hasnt even touched it or used it. 3 dont seem to have any other good phone on the offer. maybe they got a faulty batch i dnt know .

Well even if it's an upgrade Im sure a new contract/tariff was taken at the same time so the 28 day cooling off period still counts. I have been with 3 for 4 years and I nearly dumped my X10 and gf's phones on the shop counter untill they offered the add on for free, but every time I have upgraded I have had to change contracts and the cooling off period still counts.

So as I say you could dump 3 all together and go else where but 3 does offer the cheapest and most texts and minutes V's contract and phone cost in the UK.

What to do? No idea but you can walk away from the 3 contract if you/wife wishes too but go over 28 days and you will either have to battle your way out of the contract or be stuck with the phone for 24 months but I'm sure its a dodgy batch due to gf's being issue free or she could just be lucky and get hit by the same problem sooner or later :)

Me I'm on an X10 and waiting for an update to ver2.1 :(
