Help Samsung galaxy S2, Is it possible to recover photos after factory reset

Hi!

So I totally busted my screen on my S2 long ago, completely unusable.

The phone was just lying around on my shelf until a friend of mine who's fixing broken phones wanted to buy it to fix his girlfriends phone, whose microphone was busted on her S2.

The phone was factory reset by my friend (I witnessed this) when he took the motherboard from my phone to put in his girlfriends phone to use her usable screen with my usable motherboard to fix the phone.

I never used a SD card in this phone. I know how formatting a hard drive on a computer works, and that its possible, but hard, to access formatted data on a hard drive.

But I've later heard that's its possible to access my old data (pics etc) on the phone even after a factory reset.

Is this true, or am I just paranoid?

If the phone still supports USB mass storage (which the S2 did when released, don't know about whatever software version yours had in the end) then you can mount the storage on a computer and use file recovery software same as for any memory card. If it uses MTP only (the default the last few years) you can't.
