Ideally I want to join soft bank as more people I know use this provider but am I limited to NTT Docomo because of the type of phone any suggestions be much appreciated

Welcome to Android Forums, Razzie.

The only way to know for sure is to try it. If you know someone there on the same network, see if you can borrow the sim and put it in your phone.

Not all gsm networks are compatible, at least for data connections. I'd check to make sure that their nework frequency bands are compatible with your phone. It could be the case that the phone part will work, but data will not.

You might find someone else in your part of the world using a Galaxy S2 in Samsung Galaxy S2 - Android Forums

Welcome to both of you to the site, enjoy
