Given the pretty exhaustive list of things you've tried, I'd say it has to be the USB jack on the phone.

I'm afraid that if you can't get by without USB, you're going to have to send the phone for repair :(

I use AndroidSync (free version) for sync'ing over WiFi. It also lets you sync music, apps and a variety of other things - may be worth a try if you don't want to have the phone repaired.

Thanks for the replies, tried a desktop running xp pro tried a mac book pro tried a laptop with windows 7 no luck, our other galaxies are recognized, I think a trip to the sprint store is inevitable

Does it charge with a wall charger? If it doesn't, then it's most definitely likely that your phone's usb jack is messed up.

Sorry I couldn't offer more assistance

My wife and I both have this phone. My phone connects to both my desktop and laptop via usb. Her phone doesn't. I've jumped through every hoop and tried every trick from various forums including this one with no success. I'm at my wits end. I want to update her phone to the Jellybean OS. Unless someone has a fix, I'll probably just take it in. I think it's the phone.

I have the very same problem, but in my case it was caused by a wrong charger.

My mother, as an outside-technology person she is, wanted to try some random chargers she found around so she plugged them into my S2. The phone shut immediately on the 2nd charger and has been malfunctioning ever since.

-Battery lasts for 15 hours on standby.
-It says it's fully charged within 20 minutes on charger, no matter what.
-It keeps showing the "Battery full, remove charger" icon even when not plugged.
-If it's not plugged on the charger, it's not booting normally.
>sometimes just shows the battery icon with a yellow warning triangle-unable to boot.
>sometimes it boots but doesn't recognize my SIM.
>Phone menu (Power-OK-Vol Up) menu always works so I can still reboot it.
-It has recently started showing a USB icon since it starts up.

So, I have to keep my phone on charging all time I'm home even though I know it's bad for it. I've got no hope for any USB usage so I use bluetooth/Card reader in order to transfer files. My guarantee period ended 40 days ago and I was stupid enough not to send it for service before it does.
