I found this suggestion on another thread and would like to get the word out. If you are having issues connecting your Galaxy to your PC and have been fumbling with drivers, trying to contact Samsung support or your provider's support, considering rooting or factory reset, resorting to connecting as a camera(PTP)...please try this first.

1. Install or update windows media player 11
2. Reboot your pc
3. Connect your galaxy and see your mtp device setup successfully.

After days of frustration and failure, it came down to this simple solution. Try it out. If it works for you, reply to this thread.

Good luck!

You will need your proper driver from the samsung website and make sure your device is not locked with a pin/password etc. when you are hooked to the pc.

Worked form me ! Thank you !
After long frustrating days finally the issue is solved here as well.

Does anyone have an idea what to do if I have Windows Media Player 12. I tried installining WMP11, but it won't let me. And I'm still having the same issue as reported in this thread.

So after many months of frustration and "giving up" the solution was to turn off the USB debugging mode by going to settings->developer options->USB debugging. Once I unchecked that option, everything worked great.

I tried your unchecking the usb and my S2 still will not work showing Internal storage and external sd card.

I keep getting MTP USB Device Failed.

Any other ideas which WILL work?
