Help Samsung Galaxy S3 (Rogers/AT&T) Bricked or Battery Failure?

Hey guys, I'm new here and have been experiencing some issues with my phone. So some background info about the phone; the device is model SGH-i727M. It is the AT&T equivalent model as i am in canada. I'm rooted and running cyanogen mod 10.1 for jelly bean. The phone has been rooted for about a year without any issues.

Last night, my phone was working fine, however it suddenly shut off and no longer would completely start up. When i booted the phone it made it to the loading screen where the cyanogenmod animation shows, then the phone suddenly shut off again. When repeated the phone would do the same thing or just show the model number and shut off. I have tried letting the battery sit out all night and then charged it fully; though it showed no signs of charging. After doing so, the same result occurred. i noticed that as soon as i put in the battery or "jig it" around, the phone would boot up but to the same point once again. I also noticed that when the phone is plugged in, it would be more difficult to boot up. it would take about 3 attempts before it'd attempt booting. Also, it did show the battery charging icon thing when plugged in, but i had to press the power button for it to show.

Finally, i tried plugging in the phone without the battery. The result was that the led would turn on (red), and for approximately 3-4 seconds. The phone would then vibrate and the red led would turn off and the phone remained. I have experienced my share of battery problems with the phone that were easily overcome by completely draining and recharging, or letting the battery sit and then begin using it again, however this time the phone isn't making any further than the boot animation. It would be greatly appreciated if it can be determined whether or not the phone is soft or hard bricked, experiencing SDS, or if i am experiencing battery failure.

Your help is greatly appreciated, Thanks :)

hi!
the battery is 2 years old!
i had purchased the phone in january 2013.

and i can boot into recovery, however i can't do much with it since the phone shuts off within 5 seconds of start up.

Please read this whole thing b4 u do anything! Please!

Have u checked ur cell for any small "pin hole" sized -o_O wutevr u'd like 2 call it- port or hole ? I'm not entirely sure EXACTLY what model ur referring to having, but most/some of these newer phones have them, n I tend to find them on either the top[usually] or bottom of the cell phone itself (u may need 2 take off ur cover if u have 1 on to it) Well if u do find 1: first try taking out ur battery 4 about a min, then use a small paperclip[nothing pointy! - i.e. a pin] to push inside the "pin hole", give it bout another min then put ur battery back in. It's supposed to be a soft reset of ur cell n should help. If not, u can then either consider a hard reset (which I know is rough because it feels like starting all over again, but it may save u some trouble) or take ur phone in to ur local service provider for tech support! Also 2 more things as a just FYI...... I know ur battery IS rather young, n it sounds like u really work hard to charge it properly n treat it right; but the "smarter" these cells get the more of a hurting they put on their batteries, even compared 2 just 3-4 years ago- including and especially OVERHEATING! Is it possible that's what could have happened to this one? ONE OF THE LAST THINGS U MENTIONED MAY ACTUALLY BE THE KEY THO... U mentioned having to "jiggle" the charger just 2 get it charging n still to no avail. I have found thru experience w/my last few smart phones that these new mini-usb ports tend to break right about now on ur phone. Meaning having to jiggle it to get it to read the charge.... having to pin it down sumhow to stay charging.... n then finding out it stopped -AGAIN. It could very well be as simple as that...ur phone won't stay on because the USB charging port may VERY WELL BE BROKEN.

The Galaxy S3 should not have any sort of pinhole for a soft reset. Soft resets on Samsung phones are performed by removing the battery with the device powered on.

Hi guys, thank you for your responses. I have been busy so sorry for not getting back. Anyways, the phone does have pinholes in it, however i believe one is the mic for the phone, and the top, well when i pressed it, nothing happened to the phone. Currently, it is in the same state, and i don't think the micro usb port has been damaged cause the phone appears to take to charging. When i was taking about jiggling, i was talking about doing that to the battery. it doesn't last more than 3-5 seconds when booted. I am getting a friends battery to test out in the phone. I have an iPhone 6 coming but I'm gonna be phone-less for 3 weeks :saddroid:
