Help [Samsung Galaxy S3] Wifi doesn't activate

Shigueo

Lurker
Hi all,

A few days back my phone's Wi-Fi stopped working. There were no updates and no new software installed (at least that i know of) and i'm using the stock rom for 4.1.2 JB

The issue is happening on Activating the wi-fi antenna, on the Wi-Fi screen all I see is a "Activating..." message. When trying to activate, the on/off switch stays for 3 to 4 seconds and then goes back to the off state.

I have searched quite a bit for this error, the only reference I found was this one: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/712003-galaxy-s3-wifi-suddenly-not-turning.html

Though even after a Factory reset the phone stayed the same...

I'm really lost here, has anyone experienced this? Would an additional factory reset do any good?

Is the phone rooted?

If so:
This can happen after installing a kernel using an outdated base of the ROM.

Factory resets won't fix it because the problem is within the software on the system partition.

If you let us know if you're rooted and what carrier you are on, we can proceed from there

Hi, Thanks for the quick response

The phone is not rooted... Also the phone was bought carrier-less, in Brazil (dunno the correct word for it, sorry. Unlocked, maybe?)
