Samsung Galaxy S5 No Sim card error?!

Bognerman

Newbie
Hello all,

I am having a problem with my Galaxy S5. It started recently displaying an error that there is no SIM card. I tried removing it, reinserting....rebooting. Nothing works. As a results, things are not working. For example, in wireless settings, there is an error stating it can not access a cellular network without a SIM card. Can this be fixed? I have heard it is a hardware error. The phone will not send or receive texts and states this is due to no SIM card. It is driving me crazy.

Thanks!
Rich

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Bognerman!

Are you able to borrow another sim card and try it in your phone, to see if that works?

stop in at your carrier's retail office and have them check it out.
usually no charge at all, even to replace the SIM card.

my S5 would not work on 4g, a new SIM card fixed that

Thanks all. The phone is also restarting itself quite often.

I also notice a little icon on the top bar, a little circle with a line through it.

In the last month something odd started happening. The phone has been freezing and responding slowly.

I swear the no sim card error popped up after I did some app cleaning. I Uninstaller a flashlight app that was a problem, then installed a new one. I removed 360 Security and then decided to install again. I Uninstaller PSafe...and I think I Uninstaller another app, but I forget.

I have read that I should boot into safe mode to rule out 3rd party apps but I can't get the phone to boot into safe mode.

I jave also read that the little slot that holds the Sim card often fails and has difficulty reading sim cards.

I will stop at the AT&T store where I bought the phone over two years ago.

Regarding the Sim card not working on 4G, I thought 4G was available long before the S5? I know I was on 4G from day one of having my S5 for 2 ro 3 years now.

I figured how to get into safe mode. No luck there. I did however fix it! I I fixed it today. I removed the sim card, used compressed air and DeOxIt spray into the slot, and now it works.

Well the problem is back. The phone worked so well all day, and then tonight the No Sim card error came back and the phone is freezing and performing terrible.

Tomorrow I am going to the store.
My phone also has a crack across the entire screen which is annoying. Every smart phone I have owned, ended up with a screen crack within no time. Pisses me off.

I hope the problem is as simple as needing a new Sim card.
Can a Sim card failure causing lots of performance issues with freeing anf rebooting?

I am still paying this phone off so if it is failing, I am screwed and will be without a phone for a while.

you misconstrued what I said:

The phone would NOT work on 3g, a new SIM card fixed it....
ie, the SIM card was corrupted, there was nothing wrong with the phone...

the SIM card in it, was the same OEM Verizon SIM card it came with when I bought it back on 4/1/2014

Oh sorry, I got ya!

So, I learned today that either the motherboard is bad or the sensor on the board is bad, no sim card works. They said, have the phone replaced.

I am buying another S5 refurbished or new.
