Hi guys!
I have a 900T model Galaxy S5.
When I select 'System Updates', I am told I already have the latest updates. But my phone still runs on android 5.0

How do i manually update to marshmallow 6.0?

I have no experience with rooting phones or custom ROM or firmware.

I can access a PC.

Thanks in advance.
You guys rock ✌

Is there a way to update via wifi using my S5 device ... or is it possible via pc?

@ironass would you please send me the link for the SM-G900A ... I'm sorry, I could have sworn it was a 900T, but I was wrong.

Does it matter that I am not in the US?
As far as firmware goes, the important thing is the model of Galaxy S5 you have. There are 42 of them. The G900T is the carrier branded minority variant for T-Mobile (USA). See #1.5 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide. Providing that you have never rooted or adapted the phone in any way, then I have linked you to the correct and latest firmware for your model.

Thanks @ironass
Do you have the link for the SM-G900A please; I made a mistake with my model ... sorry.

I am afraid you are out of luck on the G900A which is the carrier hybrid model for the U.S. network, AT&T, as they do not issue their firmware and the only available one I can find is the Android 4.4.2 firmware that it launched with in March 2014. See #1.6 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide

Oh shit.
Okay then I must buy a new device.
Any advice on which device to buy that is affordable in the range of the S5?

If I buy a refurbished S5 900T and update that to marshmallow 6.0 will it be a noticeable improvement ... or is there another brand with good video/audio recording capabilites in the same price bracket that is worth purchasing?

All advice welcome, since this is an unexpected setback, just 17 days before I sell everything to head into Africa ... and my budget is tight!

Much appreciated

The U.S. carrier minority variants tend not to fair very well in other countries. For instance, the G900A would not be compatible with most, if not all, of the African 4G/LTE networks.

I would recommend skipping the Galaxy S5 phones in this day and age as they only sport 2GB of RAM and struggle with a lot of heavy usage. You might do better at looking at Huawei, Honor, OnePlus global models of phones with 4 or 6GB of RAM and say, dual, cameras. Since I am based in the U.K. I cannot say what the used phone market is like in the U.S.A. Here are some suggestions... https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8514&idPhone2=8416&idPhone3=8938#vtr-l29,usa,usa
