Help Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 stuck in limbo

Zoxphyl

Lurker
So I went to charge my tablet, only to find out that, somehow, it had completely drained whilst not not in use. So I decided to plug it in and wait for it to recharge, but all it does is cycle though this (http://i.imgur.com/XOR1gHA.png) sequence indefinitely and I cannot figure out how to restart it.

I should probably point out that my particular tablet suffers from a problem where a red "X" appears on the battery icon and causes it to recharge very slowly (and I do mean slowly!), a phenomenon that seems to occur more or less randomly. What I believe is going on is that my tablet is recharging so slowly that it can't even muster to show off the battery refilling animation without pooping out.

Any other Android users care to help me out of this pickle?

is this tablet new/newer to you?
Have you tried a factory reset?
Is it under warranty?
To answer your first question, I've had this tablet since late 2012.
To answer the second question, I really don't want to do a factory reset and lose all of my information (backing up my information on another computer is not an option since the problem I'm trying to fix in the first place is just trying to get the damn thing working again).
As for warranty, I doubt it (I got it as a gift).
