Help Samsung Galaxy Tab and Wifi issues

So, I've read several posts about this and still can't find a solution.

I just got a samsung tablet today and I can't connect to the wifi at all. I'm able to connect to my neighbors unprotected wifi (but you still need a password once you open the internet). My home wifi won't even connect at all. It connects, authenticates, and disconnects. The wifi works on my coby kyros, my htc one, my laptop...but not the tablet.

I don't know much about IP/static...anything. I want to try everything possible before breaking down and trying to find a new router.

Check your router - make sure there's room for one more connection. (It's a simple thing, but I've seen it be the problem more than once.)

Here is what I did. Wife has a Galaxy Tab. She said it works just fine at retail stores. I'm thinking the stores have expensive wifi equipment to keep customers happy. I have an Arris Surfboard modem which will broadcast 2.4 or 5. My laptops connect just fine to it but the Galaxy has issues keeping a connection and when I look at the speed in the router equipment table it shows up at 6000. I went to Walmart and bought a $20 Netgear EX6100V2. I set it up then moved it to the room where my wife normally uses her Galaxy Tab. Wah-la. She is happier than a lark, just in time for our 49th anniversary. The extender broadcasts solid signals in both 2.4 and 5.
