samsung gear compatability

Lurker
got a note 3 now switching to the s5 this week was wondering if i bought the watch deal would it be compatible with the nexus 6 that i'm planning on getting later this year

Highly unlikely. Samsung has opened up their Gear's compatibility with most of their Galaxy phones, but if the Nexus 6 is produced by anyone else, it probably won't work with it.
I'd keep your eye out on the upcoming Google smart watches from LG, Motorola, etc. They should be compatible with any Android phone.

You can also take a look at the Omate Truesmart. It can function either as a standard smartwatch, or as a stand alone Android phone (that happens to be on your wrist). Several available on Ebay for less than the Sammy Gear2

Though I reviewed Omate on AF/XDA and had my review sample ahead of official release, I would not recommend it. Major PITA... 'nough said.

Regarding Gear, are you talking about original one or Gear 2? Original Gear was on sale last week for $99, Samsung is dumping their stock of those watches. Without rooting Gear, you can only using it with latest Galaxy and 4.3 and up. If you root it, you can use it with other smartphones. You need to visit XDA-Developers: Samsung Galaxy Gear - xda-developers to get full compatibility details and info how to root it.

Gear 2 is different, that one will be tied to the latest Galaxy only.

so you don't recommend the omate?

Don't waste your money on Omate. As a standalone watch phone - maybe. But as notification companion to your smartphone - I would not recommend it.
