samsung gs3 standby battery usage...

Eggtastic

Newbie
the amount of battery it eats up is awful. yes i did my research and found out there was an error that samsung programed into their software and that "they are aware of the issue"...

when do you guys think this will be resolved? if i charge my phone and unplug it before bed, 8 hours later it is down 20%. that is unacceptable considering my iphone 4 would lose probably 2-3% at most over night.

I don't have that problem on my Verizon S3. On 4G standby, after 8 hours mine shows 2 to 3% drop in battery.

So far today, it's been off the charger for 4 hours, I've used it to browse web for about 30 minutes, and made a 10 minute phone call. My battery currently shows it has 92% charge. so an 8% drop with that usage. I think the battery life on the S3 is excellent!

do you also have a verizon S3?

20% over an 8 hour period of complete inactivity is not a standard amount of drop. I think you have a wake lock issue or a run away app causing the phone to stay awake.

Interesting I see this post today. I plugged and fully charged my battery at 9:30pm last night, and unplugged overnight because i dont like leaving the charger plugged in when the battery is full (Even though I usually end up doing so because i just charge it before going to bed). Anyhow, I decided to test idle battery life.

8:30am when leaving the house, I was at 95%... This includes the alarm going off about 10 times (Yes, i snooze often.. Gotta love the voice command snooze/off feature.. lol). I currently have 77% on my battery as of 3:05pm. So 17.5 hours on 23%... I say thats pretty damn great battery life, even though half was just on idle. I havent done anything crazy today with phone. Just several texts, emails, couple calls, snap some photos and email to my work pc... thats pretty much it.

Only thing i can think of is that maybe you have processes running in the background... or maybe your battery needs conditioning if you just got yoru phone. If not, you probably just have a defected battery.

Also, the entire "known issue" with idle battery life has nothing to do with the actual battery life..

I'm having a similar issue. However, when I check the battery stats one of the main battery hogs is "Gallery". Anybody know what could be causing this type of drain?

Install Better Battery Stats

Better Battery Stats

Then follow instruction in this link to determine the cause for the drain. I get about 3 days of standby time out of my Verizon GS3.

For me, the biggest offender was the Verizon sync app. Even though I had everything unchecked so nothing would sync, the app was still kicking in constantly. I rooted and then used Titanium Backup to freeze the app. Made a massive difference in my battery life.

Just look at this screenshot from the other day. I was on battery for over a day and a half and still had 57% battery:

What you are experiencing is not related to the bug in the cell standby. The bug only relates to the calculation of the % that shows up as using the battery. As other people have said, you may have something that is waking your phone up.

One thing that I have read is that the gallery is trying to sync with Google Picasa. See if you have that checked.

I am having the same issue. Even when I turn off sync, wi-fi and BT, I still lose a lot of battery while the phone is sleeping. I'll try better battery stats and see if I can pinpoint what is draining so much juice.

I don't have this problem either, I'm on 1d 8h since last charge and I'm still on 58% battery. :D

Wow, yeah that's some awesome battery life. I can barely make it through a day, and that's with moderately-light use and awareness of turning off extra services. There must be something going on.

Do you use any special battery management software?

Like Shocky I get about 2-3 day life.

In terms of standby normally see 1-2% drop overnight (6-8 hours) with data/wireless off.

Reading some of these battery life times is really starting to piss me off and resent this phone. 24 hours plus?! I cant make it through a single work day.

Are you guys with this great life on LTE? I am and my battery is goneeee fast. Better battery doesnt even show anything keeping my phone awake. It deep sleeps and still loses 6 percent battery in 4 hours while im asleep.

Have you tried posting your BBS dump to the thread on xda-developers to see if someone can help you nail down the cause? The author of the program actively helps people decipher their files if they follow the direction in his initial post in generating the file.

I'm on LTE but my primary use of my phone is all it's PDA features. I don't make many calls.

are you getting these results with stock battery and what do you do on your phone throughout the day?

I'm with you on this one. I keep seeing people say they can get to day 2 without too much trouble. I wasn't making to bedtime without having to recharge until I installed the free version of Juice Defender. That helped a bit but, as I type this, I'm at 32% (came off charger at about 8:30 this am).

I came from an iPhone 4 and my habits are exactly the same. The iPhone could easily get me to bed with about 40% remaining.

Locations services off. Screen at half brightness. Juice Defender installed.

For such a large battery this just seems terrible.

Juice Defender at least stopped the rapid battery drop during periods of inactivity.

I too seem to have problem with loosing 20/30% of batterey whilst on standby mode, ive searched and read countless threads without joy. Coming from the iPhone family I deeply regret changing to the galaxy ( can't wait untill April, back to iPhone )
I have tried countless apps that should kill running apps, deleting unwanted apps, adjusting brightness, turning GPS, Bluetooth and wi-fi off. I am certainly not a heavy user, and can't understand why this is happening??
Maybe a duff battery, I have only had the phone about five weeks and am really disappointed with fault, there does seem to be a lot of people saying the same thing. surely galaxy need to make some improvements and rectify this ongoing problem!!!

I was losing about 5% overnight from a full charge then started losing close to 20% overnight. The only thing that i had changed was my internet modem, so i started switching the modem each night and would lose 20% with the new one and only 5% with the old. All the settings on both modems are the same as far as i can tell so i dont know why this is happening.

I think the only way you could get 2 days out of this device would
be to turn it off :-D

I just about make it through a day with moderate use.

have got a 2200 anker battery in the post
which is supposed to be much better
